Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a difference in the lives of students by providing exceptional support in a Special Education setting. This contract opportunity runs from August 12, 2026, through May 21, 2027. The role, located near West Salem, IL, includes full-time hours from 7:40 am to 3:20 pm, Monday through Friday. Your schedule will incorporate a 30-minute paid lunch and a one-hour paid planning period each day, totaling approximately 39 hours weekly. You may be supporting either a 3rd-grade or 8th-grade classroom (final decision to be made prior to the school year), working in both self-contained environments and providing push-in/pull-out services. Instruction will cover subjects such as math, reading, science, and social studies. Most importantly, you will work with students who may have behavioral disorders, so a strong background in behavior management is highly valued.
Key Qualifications:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 Endorsement (PK-22). Significant experience and confidence in behavior management, particularly with students who have behavioral disorders. Willingness to teach 3rd or 8th grade based on district needs. Demonstrated, comprehensive experience with IEP writing, including drafting goals and completing all documentation independently.
Responsibilities:
Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment for students with varied needs. Deliver instruction in core subjects, adapting as needed for diverse learners. Effectively manage classroom and individual behaviors. Write, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Collaborate with classroom staff, families, and support professionals to provide holistic support to each student. Compensation for this position ranges from $37 to $55 per hour, and some candidates may be eligible for travel stipends, subject to eligibility during the screening process.
