Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of high school students by supporting academic and personal growth as a Special Education Teacher. This contract position, based near Pontiac, IL, offers the chance to work one-on-one with students in grades 9-12, providing targeted instruction and collaborating within an inclusive classroom setting alongside dedicated educators. As a valued educator, you will:
Responsibilities:
Deliver specialized instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Teach one categorical special education class tailored to individualized goals. Co-teach in general education classrooms, fostering inclusion and collaboration. Implement accommodations and supports as outlined in students' IEPs. Partner with school staff, related service providers, and families to ensure holistic student progress. Accurately document progress and support the IEP process, including regular meetings and multidisciplinary teamwork. Utilize a generous daily 85-minute prep period for planning, documentation, and thoughtful collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current Special Education teaching certification or licensure. Experience at the high school level is a plus. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively. Confidence in supporting a variety of learning and behavioral needs in adolescents. The position operates within one building and covers a schedule of 35 hours per week, with hours from 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM, starting August 17, 2026 and concluding May 28, 2027.
