Position Description:
Wayzata Public Schools is currently seeking a Special Education teacher with the ability, skills, and training necessary to work with a broad array of students with disabilities in a cross-categorical model, such that they can receive an appropriate education program in their neighborhood school. Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act , may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This list isILLUSTRATIVE

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the followin g Creates lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and engaging, as well as multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate. Selects, adapts and individualizes materials appropriate for diverse student populations and skills. Collaborates and communicates regularly with school staff and students' families in making educational decisions; uses family and community resources to support learning. Regularly assesses student needs and learning, using multiple forms of assessment. Responsible for case management and maintaining appropriate due process files. Work effectively as a member of a high performing team. Participates in ongoing and regular staff, team and individual professional development and pursues continuous improvement of one's professional practice. Always keeps the students' needs and rights first and foremost in any educational decision-making Understands self-regulation and sensory processing. Uses visual strategies and implements sensory routines with regularity. Uses social thinking skills strategies. Writes Behavior Support Plans and creates daily behavior systems. Develops, adapts and implements curriculum and lesson plans; aligns curriculum with academic standards.Qualifications:
Special Education Licensure required for working with students in Federal Setting 1-3. Multiple licensure preferred. Ability to design and implement specially designed instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of students requiring special education services. Experience and willingness to work on general education teams and provide collaborative special education services with general education teachers is required. Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and to effectively direct the work delegated to them. Interest in and ability to relate well to secondary students. Experience with evaluation and eligibility determination for special education services preferred.Benefits:
