POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vocational Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of job training programs that bridge the gap between the classroom and the workforce. This role focuses on identifying student interests, securing community partnerships, and providing direct instruction in employability and life skills. All activities are coordinated closely with Special Needs teachers to ensure alignment with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and transition requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Development & Coordination
Community Outreach:
Proactively identify and contact local businesses to develop diverse job training opportunities (paid or unpaid) for students.
Logistics Management:
Coordinate and schedule all school-based and community-based vocational placements.
Business Liaison:
Serve as the primary point of contact for employer partners, ensuring student placements meet both educational goals and business needs. Coordinate job coaching Direct Student Instruction & Skill Building
Job Task Mastery:
Teach students specific hard skills and tasks related to their assigned job descriptions.
Soft Skills Instruction:
Provide direct coaching on workplace etiquette, hygiene, punctuality, and respect for supervisors and coworkers.
Social & Emotional Support:
Instruct students on appropriate public interfacing and assist in managing workplace anxiety or sensory issues through pre-determined coping strategies. Collaboration with Special Needs Staff
Program Implementation:
Execute vocational curriculum and transition goals as defined by the Special Education Teachers.
Field Trip Coordination:
Partner with teachers to develop and schedule community outings that meet specific IEP and program objectives.
Job Training:
Develop and deliver training for paraprofessionals in job coaching strategies to support students at on
  • and off-campus vocational sites; provide direct job coaching to students as needed.
Data & Reporting:
Maintain detailed progress logs and report student performance data to teachers for use in annual IEP reviews and progress reports. IEP, Transition & Program Support
IEP Participation:
Attend IEP meetings and contribute to three-year evaluations, providing input on vocational performance, independence, and transition planning.
Agency Coordination:
Collaborate with the special education liaison and coordinate with DDS when appropriate to support post-secondary transition planning.
Program Coverage:
Serve as a specialized paraprofessional or substitute teacher as needed to ensure continuity of instruction and student support during staff absences Evaluation & Conflict Resolution
Joint Site Evaluations:
Conduct regular on-site assessments with teachers to ensure the environment remains safe and appropriate for students' cognitive and physical needs.
Problem Solving:
Collaborate with teachers to modify tasks or environments if a student struggles; mediate any conflicts between students and business partners.
Adaptive Support:
Implement "Correction Plans" co-designed with the teaching team to address behavioral or performance gaps at the job site.
MISCELLANEOUS
Target Population:
Students ages 14-22 with cognitive and physical disabilities
Reporting Structure:
Works under the direction and guidance of the Special Needs Teacher(s)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
College degree preferred.
Experience:
Experience working with individuals with moderate-to-severe disabilities; experience in job development or vocational coaching preferred.
Skills:
Strong communication, ability to navigate community environments independently, and a deep understanding of sensory and physical accommodations.

This is a 10-month based on the school year.
