Shared Elementary Special Education/Specialized Reading Teacher
K-5 REPORTS TO
Principals of Nantucket Elementary & Nantucket Intermediate Schools
JOB SUMMARY
The Nantucket Elementary and Nantucket Intermediate Schools are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher/Specialized Reading Teacher to support elementary students with specific learning disabilities. This role involves providing targeted instruction in pull-out settings. Specialized Reading in this instance includes systematic and explicit teaching where instruction follows a logical order, directly teaching letter-sound correspondences (phonics) rather than expecting students to infer them; Multisensory techniques - instruction engaging multiple senses-sight, sound, movement, and touch-to improve memory and learning and data-driven individualization: using assessments to track progress and adjust instruction. collaborating with general education teachers, and implementing evidence-based strategies to help students achieve their IEP goals. Experience with Orton-Gillingham is required. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, inclusive environment that promotes student growth and success.
QUALIFICATIONS
Hold a valid license granted by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities. Associate's level training or higher training/certification in Orton-Gillingham. Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or Specialized Reading; Masters Degree preferred Citizenship, residency or work visa required. ${description2}
