Job Description

Speech Language Pathologist - Clinical Fellows welcome to apply Position SummaryThe speech-language pathologist (SLP) is a passionate and innovative clinician serving on an interdisciplinary team in the non-public special education school setting. The SLP plays a crucial role in facilitating functional communication and language development for students with autism and related disorders and co-occurring complex communication challenges through provision of direct and consultative speech and language therapy services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts screenings, informal assessment, and/or comprehensive standardized assessment of students' speech and language skills to identify strengths and needs and formulate individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Participates in IEP meetings
  • Delivers targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention through direct and indirect services
  • Oversees student feeding protocols as indicated
  • Works on an interdisciplinary team and collaborates with parents/families, other professionals, and school personnel
  • Ads to student IEPs and associated documents (e.g. behavior intervention plans, sensory protocols, etc.)
  • Implements and programs low and high-tech AAC systems
  • Monitors and documents treatment and student progress according to state and federal regulations consistent with Medicaid requirements for reimbursement
  • Completes all daily service logs, progress reports, and IEP documents within a timely manner according to facility, state, and federal guidelines
  • Stays informed about latest evidence-based practices in the field of speech-language pathology
  • Maintains licensure and certification
  • Ads to ASHA code of ethics
  • Supervises graduate students and/or clinical fellows as able and needed
  • Provides in-services to staff and family regarding various aspects of the field
  • Ads to Linwood School policies and procedures
  • May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from accredited institution
  • Valid license from Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech-Language Hearing Association
  • Experience in special education
  • Experience in pediatrics
  • Knowledge of a variety of AAC systems
  • Linwood provides CPR training. The employee must achieve and maintain certification.
  • Linwood provides Professional Crisis Training (PCM) The employee must achieve and maintain certification at the Basic Practitioner level (or higher).
Abilities:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the IEP process.
  • Ability to communicate with and provide direct assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities who are having behavioral challenges '
  • Must possess strong problem solving skills and be detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with all levels of management.
  • Demonstrates a skill set that includes the ability to interface in a professional manner with Linwood staff, parents, school system personnel and other professionals.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, various forms of technology, or controls.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, cr.
