Job Description

Job Begins August 24, 2026 We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech-Language Pathologist for the 26-27 school year who brings warmth, a nurturing presence, and a deep understanding of communication development, along with strong therapeutic skills rooted in rhythm, consistency, and compassion. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering healthy communication skills, cultivating a love of learning through developmentally appropriate practices, and working collaboratively with colleagues, families, and the wider school community.
Who We Are:
Shade Canyon School is a new public charter school using the principles of Public Waldorf education and located in beautiful Kelseyville, California. The school opened in September 2023 on a leased site. We now have 85 students, grades TK-4th. Our enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is 105 students in grades TK-5. Summary of Position:
Shade Canyon School in Kelseyville, California, is accepting applications for a Speech-Language Pathologist for the 2026-27 school year. As part of Shade Canyon's educational program, our SLP's mission is to provide students with communication disorders the specialized instruction and services needed to reach their fullest academic potential. Our whole-child curriculum is based on the integration of practical and artistic activities; the SLP will adapt these Waldorf-inspired methods to support articulation, expressive and receptive language, and social communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Conduct thorough initial evaluations and reevaluations that comply with school, state, and federal guidelines
  • Participate as a member of the IEP team to develop measurable goals, objectives, and accommodations
  • Provide direct individual and small group therapy in an inclusive, Waldorf-inspired environment
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to support communication strategies across the classroom and home settings
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications:
We seek candidates who have high academic standards, the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to engage students of all temperaments and ability levels, and the interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues, administration, and parents. Strong skills in art, nature-based education, and social-emotional learning are highly desired. Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
  • Must hold an active license from the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board (SLPAB)
  • A minimum of five years of school-based SLP experience highly desired
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) or Clinical Fellowship status
  • Local to Lake County preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred If Applying as Employee
  • Valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential If Applying as Independent Contractor
  • Must be certified as an NPA by the California Department of Education (CDE) to provide services for students with IEPs Other Requirements Letter of Introduction and Resume Three (3) Letters of Recommendation (written within the past 12 months) Reference Check Complete Employment History Disclosure (AB 2534 & SB 848): Applicants must provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school, state special school, or private K-12 school where they were previously employed Authorization for

Fingerprint Clearance & Criminal Record Check:
Must include expanded SB 848 exclusion vetting (prohibiting the hire of any individual convicted of a violent crime or specified sex offenses)
Professional Boundaries & Mandated Reporter Training:
Successful candidates must complete annual training on mandated reporting and the school's Professional Boundaries Policy within six weeks of hire Clear TB Test & CPR/First Aid Certification Comments and Other Information This position is part-time (.40FTE) and the employee may elect to participate in CalSTRS, but other medical/dental benefits are not provided. Students of employees receive admission preference.

Employees in this position may have a higher level of exposure to illness or infection from students. May be. exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable behavior, display physically aggressive behavior, and insult your personal characteristics including appearance, ace, age, sex and race. There is also frequent contact with staff and public.

Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone to accurately identify, evaluate, and treat speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.

Speak clearly and audibly to model correct phonemes, sentence structure, and vocabulary for students in individual, group, and classroom settings.

Possess the visual acuity to observe a student's oral-motor movements, use of communication devices (AAC), and response to visual therapeutic aids.

Mental acuity to interpret complex diagnostic data, develop individualized treatment plans (IEPs), and make effective clinical judgments.

Demonstrate significant fine finger dexterity to operate specialized testing equipment, manipulate small therapeutic materials (e.g., flashcards, board games), and program augmentative communication devices.
