Job Description
Job Description Summary Speech-Language Pathologist based in public schools are expected to lead the process of development, coordination and implementation in service delivery to children with identified learning and participation needs in this setting. Screening, evaluation, educational program planning and transition planning, provide therapeutic interventions and strategies, and exit planning is expected of the Speech-Language Pathologist, for students identified with, or suspected of having, disabilities or deficits that interfere with their ability participate fully and successfully in school. Other duties of the o Speech-Language Pathologist may include consultation services, supervision of support staff, and related administrative tasks as part of service delivery within a school building and district. A therapist may have to provide services at several work locations. The workday is typically 8 hours of scheduled work time. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities Gathers information needed to evaluate a child by reviewing records and communicating with the school team. Administers screenings in school-based settings and determines appropriate recommendations Administers the evaluation process fully and administers appropriate assessment instruments and procedures, taking into consideration a student's age, developmental level, condition, and educational placement. Interprets assessment results in developing or modifying speech therapy intervention plans. Plans and implements intervention strategies utilizing a continuum of service delivery models. Participates in the IEP process, engages in consensual decision making with school team. Communicates effectively (orally and in writing) with education personnel, administrators, parents and community members. Provides accurate documentation of the assessment and intervention results. Facilitates transition among agencies, programs, and professionals as service provision changes (early intervention to pre-school, pre-school to school etc.) May supervise Level I/ Level II field work students. May mentor newer SLP Identifies emergency situations and determines appropriate action to ensure child safety. May perform other duties as assigned. Hearing and speaking ability are required to communicate on the telephone. Vision is necessary for entering data. Reaching is required for paper management. Manual dexterity is required for operating the computer, photocopier and telephone. Mobility is required for going to photocopiers, fax machines, etc. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to function independently and have personal integrity. Requires flexibility of hours. Must be able to travel to and from patient homesPSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS
An ability to recognize tasks to be done and perform them independently. An ability to establish a responsible and trustworthy rapport with staff by: Being punctual and providing proper notification and advance notice for absence and tardiness. Following through on tasks assigned. Flexibility to adjust to changing work schedules. An ability to work in a fast-paced environment under time constraints.INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS
An ability to learn all Constellation Health Services policies and procedures. Judgment skills in processing telephone calls Organizational skills necessary to establish priority of tasks and meet deadlines. An ability to operate all aspects of the computer, photocopier and telephone. An ability to understand and follow instructions provided by the supervisor both in written and oral formats. An ability to read, write and type. Position Qualifications Demonstrate understanding and comprehension of all information required for the multiple roles the SLP assumes in the school setting. Must demonstrate core knowledge of speech therapy as it relates to school-based practice. Demonstrate the ability to employ sound reasoning to make judgments and decisions with the context of their role in the school setting, and as a member of the Constellation organization. Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with other professionals and individuals with whom we work within the school setting, and as a member of the Constellation organization. Demonstrate expertise; aptitude; proficiency; and ability to competently fulfill the essential functions of their roles and responsibilities. Be able to identify, analyze and clarify professional concerns and issues, in order to make responsible decisions within the changing context of roles and responsibilities.
