Job Description
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare journal entries and analyze variances Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, payments, and reimbursements
- Manage accounts receivable, including dues, tuition, donations, and program revenue
- Coordinate with staff on billing, collections, and member account questions Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with annual budget preparation and ongoing forecasting
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis Donations, Grants & Compliance
- Track and properly record donations, pledges, grants, and restricted funds
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and donor restrictions
- Support preparation for audits, tax filings, and financial reviews Systems & Collaboration
- Utilize and maintain accounting and synagogue management systems
- Work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and lay leadership
- Recommend process improvements and internal controls
- Other financial responsibilities and duties as appropriate, needed and assigned. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-5 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online)
- Familiarity with synagogue systems such as ShulCloud and Bill Divvy a plus
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Work in-person Personal Attributes
- Highly organized, dependable, and ethical
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
- Confidentiality is a high priority
