Job Description

Join our dynamic finance team as a Staff Accountant and become a vital contributor to our organization's financial health and integrity. The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial operations of the company by maintaining accurate financial records, performing general ledger accounting, and assisting with payroll administration. This role ensures the integrity of financial data through accounts receivable processing, cash receipts recording, journal entries, reconciliations, and support of month-end and year-end close activities. The Staff Accountant works closely with internal departments to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with company policies. As a valued member of the Miller Timber team, this position supports operational efficiency while upholding safety standards, financial accountability, and high-quality results in a dynamic and growth-oriented work environment. Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Maintain and reconcile General Ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation. Accounts Receivable & Cash Management
  • Process Accounts Receivable transactions, including preparing and issuing invoices.
  • Record and apply cash receipts accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor customer accounts and assist with collections and account follow-up.
  • Reconcile customer accounts and resolve discrepancies. Payroll Administration
  • Support semi-monthly payroll processing for 100+ employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with HR to address payroll-related inquiries and maintain payroll records.
  • Process payroll adjustments including garnishments, child support orders, benefit deductions, final checks, and wage changes.
  • Record payroll totals and related entries into the General Ledger.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation and payroll information. General Accounting Support
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support cross-functional departments with financial data requests and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflow efficiency.
Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field Minimum 2 years payroll experience; preferable experience with multi-state payroll variable payrates and worker's comp coding Experience with advanced accounting software and payroll software systems Strong analytical skills combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data confidently. This is a salaried, non-exempt position. Starting pay is at $75,000 annual salary. This is a full time, permanent position that is eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision. There is also a retirement plan employees are eligible for after one year of employment.
