Staff Nurse•Department:
Joint Center 7EFull/Part Time:
FullReq Number:
UHS-18500
Position Summary:
Hello and welcome to our unit! I'm Whitney Owen, MSN, BSN, CMSRN, Manager of the Orthopedic and Surgical unit, also known as Joint Replacement/Ortho/Ortho Trauma. We are located on the 7th floor of the East Pavilion at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The environment on our unit is fast paced, challenging, and a great place to learn and grow as a nurse. We care for patients ranging from teenagers to geriatrics who are being treated for elective procedures such as total joint replacement (hip, knee, shoulder, and ankle). In addition, we care for trauma patients with various fractures and injuries from traumatic events (car accident, ATV accident, falls, violent crimes, etc.). Our patients are unique because they may have a very short length of stay. One of the perks of working on our unit is the varying dynamics between our unique patient population. Some of our patients have been waiting for months to have their new knee or hip and cannot wait to return to doing things they enjoy in life, while our Ortho Trauma patient population is experiencing the hospital setting for the first time. Our nurses are successful because they have incredible time management skills, believe in teamwork, and know our patients depend on us to return to doing what they love. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing them with a targeted 12 weeks of orientation. The RN is responsible for delegating, coordinating, and managing all aspects of nursing care and services provided to the patient and family in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and respectful manner. Patient and family centered care is delivered in collaboration with the patient, family, and members of the healthcare team. Initiates the development of the plan of care based upon the nursing assessment, the medical diagnosis and clinical information gathered from the patient, family and other health care providers. Evaluates the patient's actual and/or potential response to the disease process, interventions, and the outcomes of nursing care and multidisciplinary health care services. Incorporates evidence-based research in the delivery of professional nursing services. Establishes and maintains positive interpersonal relationships and promotes effective teamwork with patients, families, coworkers and the community to meet customer service goals. Considers safety principles and practices to address unit-based issues related to the quality of care and services provided the appropriate use of technology, and the efficiencies of service delivery. Responds appropriately to emergency situations or unplanned events. Promotes the effective and efficient allocation, distribution and use of unit, service-line, and organizational resources for the delivery of safe, timely, cost-effective and respectful patient care services.Position Qualification:
