Summary The Stamping Die Shop Supervisor oversees die tryout operations, die tuning activities, and shop floor execution within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This position serves as the primary technical resource for stamping die processes, ensuring projects meet quality, delivery, cost, maintenance, and safety objectives. This role provides leadership for die tuning personnel while actively participating in troubleshooting, process development, and continuous improvement initiatives related to automotive body structure and closure panel tooling. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the technical lead for stamping die processes including die build, tuning, tryout, process development, and formability troubleshooting.
Support and oversee all aspects of die tuning operations and shop floor execution.
Understand workload demands, staffing requirements, and project timing expectations for the department.
Coordinate activities with engineering, project management, manufacturing, and tooling teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to die build, tryout, and stamping concerns.
Monitor project timing and prioritize activities to ensure on-time completion of deliverables.
Train, mentor, and develop die tuners and shop personnel on stamping and die tryout best practices.
Assign work responsibilities and support team members in making sound technical decisions independently.
Promote collaboration across departments to resolve manufacturing and tooling issues efficiently.
Communicate effectively with management, engineers, suppliers, customers, and production teams.
Ensure customer specifications and program deliverables are achieved accurately and on schedule.
Participate in estimating activities for new tooling builds, engineering changes, and service work.
Review production status, schedules, and project timelines while adjusting priorities as needed.
Recommend and implement improvements to increase safety, efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
Oversee stamping shop equipment and ensure maintenance activities are completed and documented.
Monitor inventory levels of tooling and stamping-related supplies.
Ensure compliance with all safety standards, procedures, and housekeeping requirements.
Actively support lean manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement programs.
Participate hands-on in die tuning, tryout, and manufacturing activities as required.
Support rework and quality improvement initiatives by identifying concerns and communicating corrective actions.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications To perform this role successfully, candidates must be capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Strong knowledge of automotive stamping die processes and die tryout operations
Experience with automotive body structure and closure panel tooling preferred
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
Effective leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Experience working within manufacturing and tooling environments
Familiarity with cranes, forklifts, and shop equipment preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Education and Experience
Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent vocational training preferred
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in stamping, tooling, die tryout, or automotive manufacturing environments
