This position is for the Career Design Center at OSU-Cascades in Bend, Oregon. The Student Career Assistant is based at OSU-Cascade in Bend, Oregon. It supports the Career Design Center's mission by advising and mentoring students in career and self‑development, including job and internship preparation, professional documents review and preparation, and interviewing skills. This role expands equitable access to career readiness through classroom presentations, peer advising, event coordination, and strategic communication efforts that connect students with resources, employers, and experiential learning opportunities. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and employers, the Career Assistant helps embed career design throughout students' educational journeys and prepares them to thrive in a dynamic workforce. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Career & Self-Development Position Duties Career and Self-Development
  • Advise students on the process of seeking, ing, and preparing for internships and jobs; track and record student appointments in order to keep accurate records
  • Use Handshake and the Career Design Center's in order to advise students on searching for jobs, creating an online profile, and accessing career resources
  • Complete the Career Assistant training program to best learn the procedures and policies of the Career Design Center and the responsibilities of a Career Assistant Communication
  • Deliver engaging classroom presentations on resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation, using clear verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support diverse learning styles and student backgrounds
  • Promote upcoming career-related events and resources by creating marketing flyers and posting announcements on Bend Beavs Central, ensuring timely, accurate information sharing and consistent messaging
  • Expand student engagement through strategic communication efforts, including promoting career events, resources, and professional development tips via social media platforms and written monthly newsletters
  • Actively participate in weekly team meetings by practicing active listening, asking clarifying questions, maintaining detailed notes, and promptly communicating with supervisors to seek guidance and ensure task alignment Critical Thinking
  • Support the planning and coordinating Career Development Center events, including career fairs, networking events, employer information sessions
  • Support Career Development Center staff in completing administrative tasks that support the mission of the CDC, including but not limited to communicating with employers, faculty, and staff.
  • Identify and analyze current job and internship opportunities by consulting diverse databases and sources; post these opportunities for students and share with relevant stakeholders, such as faculty, staff, students, employers, etc.
  • Design and contribute to a monthly newsletter that shares career development resources, strategies, events, and job opportunities.
  • Evaluate and synthesize relevant information to develop monthly newsletters that proactively address college students' career development needs and promote job/internship opportunities. Leadership
  • Advise and mentor peers during office hours on resumes, cover letters, job searching, and interview preparation, modeling confidence and a positive attitude while motivating students through individualized guidance, innovative coaching strategies, and trust‑based support
