JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

Student Nurse Externs work in a variety of nursing practice areas throughout Good Samaritan. This role is designed for current pre-licensure licensed practical nursing and registered nursing students.

Essential Job Duties:

Performs or assists with the patients' activities of daily living utilizing the Good Samaritan Professional Practice Model Assists the healthcare team by collecting, reporting, documenting, and delivering care to support high quality and safe outcomes. Improves or maintains patient satisfaction levels by providing care with consideration of the individual needs of the patient/family and their age-specific/developmental needs. Contributes to a high-performance work environment by maintaining specific knowledge and skills needed to perform tasks according to policy and procedure at Good Samaritan Hospital. Hours worked will be split between Patient Care Technician assignments and Student Nurse Extern assignments.

Secondary Job Duties:

Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education -- High school graduate or GED and currently enrolled in a pre-licensure LPN, ASN, ADN, or BSN program at an accredited school of nursing. Must have completed at least one semester of nursing clinicals. At minimum, one letter of recommendation from a nursing clinical instructor must be submitted with application. Experience -- Maintain GPA 3.2 or better and proof of good standing in the school of nursing. An unofficial transcript must be submitted with application. Reports to: A Nurse Preceptor and is accountable to the Nurse Manager.
