Our mission is to provide comprehensive, student-centered services that address basic needs insecurities while advocating for systemic change. Through this work, we aim to create a campus environment where students are not just getting by—but are supported in a way that allows them to persist, succeed, and thrive. The Student Program Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students experiencing housing insecurity, homelessness, or at risk of displacement. This position leads housing-focused case management efforts, connecting students to both campus and community resources, and helping them navigate complex systems with clarity and care. About Rancho Santiago Community College District Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is one of the most established districts in the state and has been in operation for nearly 50 years. Located in the heart of Orange County, it is one of the largest of California's 72 community college districts, based on the number of credit and non-credit students. RSCCD encompasses 25 percent of Orange County's total area and serves a population of more than 700,000 residents in the communities of Anaheim Hills, Orange, Santa Ana, Villa Park, and portions of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Tustin, and Yorba Linda. The district includes Santiago Canyon College and Santa Ana College, as well as the Centennial and Orange Continuing Education Centers, the Digital Media Center, the Joint Powers Fire Training Center, the Orange County Sheriff's Regional Training Academy, the College and Workforce Preparation Center, and the District Operations Center. RSCCD's three (3) auxiliary Foundations are actively involved in supporting both community and campus programs. About the Position The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competency in serving diverse community college populations, including faculty, management, and students from varied ethnic, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This includes those with differing abilities, AB 540 students, DACA recipients, Foreign Residents, VACA participants, and Continuing Education students. They will support RSCCD's mission to promote self-awareness, knowledge, and communication skills, enabling all members of the college community to participate creatively and confidently in an ever-changing world. Class Summary Under general direction, assists in specific student development programs; may direct clerical support staff, and student workers, performs related duties as required. Representative Duties Provides information to students regarding available programs and services. May refer and/or assist students in obtaining counseling, admission, registration, financial aid and other campus services. Provides orientation and direction for program staff in procedures, protocols and policies related to the services offered. Assists program professionals(s) in most phases of program delivery and development, i.e., scheduling, recordkeeping, report writing, needs analysis, new services and outreach. Compile and input data to facilitate program reporting requirements; may perform other related duties as assigned. Organizational Relationships This class reports to the designated manager/administrator and may direct activities of student workers and clerical support staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience High School Diploma or GED and any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to one year in a position that involves considerable public contact or working with students. Additional Qualifications Candidate must demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff, and the community.
Knowledge and Abilities Working Knowledge of:
techniques and methods of interviewing; mainframe/microcomputers, student records and word processing/spreadsheet software.
Ability to:
gather and analyze data; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
