Job Description

This position is perfect for those who are responsible and energetic with prior experience teaching dance classes and youth summer camps.
JOB TITLE
Summer Day-Camp Lead Counselor (Seasonal)
JOB LOCATION
TranscenDance Studios (Dance Studio), Oak Park, IL
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
Part-time (17.5-28.75 hours a week) beginning June 8 and concluding August 14, 2026. In-person paid training will occur May 29 from 10:00am-3:00pm.
COMPENSATION
$20 an hour. Pay is bi-weekly via direct deposit.
REPORTING
This position oversees the Assistant Counselor and reports to the Summer Camp Manager.
SHIFT SUMMARY
AM Shift:
Room A
  • Leader 8:00am-12:15pm = 4.25 hours daily, Monday-Friday, or 21.25 hours per week
  • FILLED Room B
  • Leader 8:45am-12:45pm = 4 hours daily, Monday-Friday, or 20 hours per week
CURRENTLY HIRING PM
Shift:
Room A
  • Leader 12:15pm-6:00pm = 5.75 hours daily, Monday-Friday, or 28.75 hours per week
  • FILLED Room B
  • Leader 12:15pm-3:45/6:00pm = 3.5/5.75 hours daily, Monday-Friday, or 17.5/28.75 hours per week
CURRENTLY HIRING
Employees should plan on maintaining the same shift for the duration of the summer unless substituting for another staff member. Summer camp runs 9 weeks from June 8-August 14, 2026. There is no camp the week of June 29-July 3, 2026.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Care and supervision of 5-20 campers and 1 assistant counselor at any given time Mentor and direct 1 assistant counselor Greet parents and campers as they arrive and assist in making sure that campers are properly dropped off and picked up Assist in maintaining attendance sheets Take photos and videos throughout the day to upload to the camp's weekly private album for parents Communicate with parents about daily activities and camper progress Understand, communicate, and assist with enforcing camp rules and policies Provide guidance and ensure that each camper's stay is enjoyable, safe, and supports personal growth Deliver camp content in a manner that ensures all campers have a positive learning experience Supervise safe consumption of snack and/or meals brought from home Oversee appropriate clean-up of materials and space by campers Present a weekly student dance performance to parents. Performance choreography is provided and showing is informal. Students should demonstrate confidence in what they learned Wear camp staff dress code and identification throughout the day
QUALIFICATIONS
Obtain Adult & Pediatric Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED
  • free certification available Obtain Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification
  • free certification available Applicants must submit to and pass a background check for working with children High school diploma or equivalent required; some college a plus Prior experience working with children required through camp, day care, or youth programming instruction.
Camp experience preferred. Reliable mode of transportation enabling dependable timeliness required Dance experience required.

  • Theme A 11:00-11:45 Themed indoor/outdoor games
  • Theme A 11:45-12:00 AM half-day dismissal

  • Informal Dance Performance for parents on Fridays (AM) 12:00-12:30 Lunch (off-site & outside weather permitting), free time with friends, rest or read 12:30-12:45 PM half-day arrival and welcome activity
  • Theme B 12:45-1:30 Afternoon recentering (yoga/pilates/etc.) & learn this week's dance routine
  • Theme B 1:30-2:00 Crafty time with theme education
  • Theme B 2:00-2:15 Snack from home
  • Theme B 2:15-2:30 Clean up & rotate
  • Theme B 2:30-3:15 Themed indoor/outdoor games
