Job Description

Overview :
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking a supplier management engineer with 2+ years' experience in procurement, supply chain, industrial engineering, or program support roles to join the Systems Design Department in Groton, CT. Successful applicants will be responsible for supporting engineering teams in procurement for detail and schedule critical hardware production efforts supporting Government contracts. This person in this role will serve as a bridge between engineering, program management, and vendors to ensure material flow, procurement actions, and supplier performance do not delay program timelines. The candidate should understand technical detail enough to support engineering needs while owning the end-to-end procurement process including solicitations, vendor management, and purchase execution. APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development and production programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. Job Functions and Responsibilities Lead preparation and issuance of RFQs to vendors Evaluate vendor quotes for cost, lead time, and technical compliance Generate Purchase Requisitions
  • may require surge support during high-demand periods Serve as primary POC for vendors once Purchase Orders are placed throughout procurement lifecycle, providing input to program management and manufacturing and soliciting input from engineering as needed Support vendor-related quality activities, including documentation and issue resolution Track vendor performance, delivery timelines
  • proactively follow up to prevent delays and resolve supply issues Track and validate invoices for accuracy and alignment with POs
  • clearly communicate cost, funding status, invoice updates to PM Support development and optimization of the supplier base, including identifying alternate or competitive sources Work with PM to communicate procurement status, risks, cost updates and with Tech Lead and line management to ensure materials meet technical requirements Balance competing priorities across multiple programs/contracts and align procurement actions accordingly Required Skills and Attributes Minimum AS in Engineering Technology or Business 2+ years job-related experience Ability to focus on supply chain and vendor contracts for low volume long lead materials Strong written and verbal communication, including documentation habits Ability to understand BOMs, configuration management, and revision control Ability to work under supervision on administrative tasks while maintaining records for multiple purchases and vendors across multiple contracts Proactively organize details and flow status updates Strong time management and multitasking ability Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Secret security clearance Preferred Skills and Attributes BS in Engineering Technology Management or Business-Related Field & 4+ years job-related experience Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (GD&T) and specifications Familiarity with quality requirements such as inspection plans, traceability, and FAI Basic understanding of materials and material certifications Experience with MRP software Ability to evaluate supplier capability, capacity, and technical maturity Curiosity and willingness to learn technical subject matter Background working in manufacturing APS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Dynamics Corporation, offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and comfortable working conditions.
