Job Title:
Survey Technician Job Description The Survey Technician supports both field and office land surveying activities for active infrastructure and construction projects. This role focuses on collecting precise site data, establishing and verifying project control, and producing accurate mapping and documentation for project stakeholders while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality. Responsibilities Adhere to and promote strict compliance with all safety policies and procedures in both field and office environments. Perform 3D laser scanning and drone operations to capture existing site conditions for infrastructure and construction projects. Utilize digital leveling equipment to establish and verify highly accurate elevations for project control and benchmarks. Operate traditional land surveying equipment, including GPS and Total Stations, to complete topographic and boundary surveys. Interpret engineering and construction plans to calculate horizontal and vertical control points for construction layout and execution. Conduct property and boundary research to support survey deliverables and ensure the accuracy of land records. Support platting activities using 2D drafting tools to assist in the preparation of survey plats and related documents. Prepare and draft existing site conditions using various surveying and design software platforms. Collaborate with project teams to ensure survey data and mapping meet project requirements and quality standards. Maintain organized survey records, field notes, and digital files to support efficient project documentation. Essential Skills Minimum of 6 months of experience in land surveying or a closely related surveying role. Experience with land surveying principles, techniques, and equipment. Proficiency with surveying technology, including GPS, Total Stations, and digital levels. Working knowledge of survey drafting and mapping software. Ability to perform topographic and boundary surveys using appropriate surveying tools and methods. Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret engineering and construction plans accurately. Commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of field and office work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to 3D laser scanning and drone operations is preferred. Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software is a nice to have. Experience with Carlson Survey or similar surveying software is a plus. Familiar in topographic surveys and land survey data processing is beneficial. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a project-driven environment. Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders. Work Environment This role is based in and around Keokuk, Iowa, with all work conducted locally and little to no travel required outside the area. The position involves a mix of outdoor fieldwork on active infrastructure and construction sites and indoor office work focused on drafting, data processing, and documentation. Fieldwork may include working in various weather conditions and on diverse terrain while operating GPS units, Total Stations, digital levels, 3D laser scanners, and drones. Office work typically involves using surveying, mapping, and CAD software in a collaborative, project-focused environment that supports technical development and career growth. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Keokuk, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $48.00/hr.
