Open Rate Position Overview Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the operations, maintenance, modernization, and continued development of enterprise travel data applications and backend processing environments. This role supports mission-critical applications responsible for ingesting, parsing, processing, and integrating largescale travel data as systems transition into modernized cloud-based environments and analytic platforms. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in data engineering, cloud technologies, and distributed data processing frameworks, with the ability to support both ongoing operational needs and modernization initiatives. This position requires expertise in data pipelines, ETL processing, AWS cloud services, and application sustainment activities, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and support evolving data integration capabilities. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support for enterprise travel data applications and backend environments, including monitoring system performance, availability, storage utilization, and travel data parsing metrics.
  • Maintain application stability and performance by supporting database/software maintenance activities, monitoring data growth, and coordinating license and certificate renewals.
  • Support ongoing travel data parsing and processing activities for Sponsor partners and recommend system upgrades, integrations, or enhancements to improve scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Perform Tier 3 troubleshooting and issue resolution by analyzing logs, alerts, and operational data, replicating system issues in development/test environments, and coordinating fixes with vendors and external partners.
  • Support modernization and transition efforts for travel applications, including development of deployment, migration, and data validation plans.
  • Coordinate technical meetings, project schedules, and integration activities with Sponsor divisions and mission partners.
  • Develop technical approaches, validate system designs, conduct feasibility studies, and prepare technical briefings and status updates for leadership.
  • Support Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities and contribute to continuous process improvement and lessons learned initiatives. Mandatory Skills
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing data pipelines.
  • Strong experience with Python development.
  • Experience using AWS cloud services and cloud-based computing environments.
  • Experience processing large datasets using Apache Spark.
  • Experience working with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) including PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL and writing SQL queries.
  • Experience with Linux administration and shell scripting.
  • Experience analyzing and processing multiple data formats including CSV, XML, JSON, AVRO, and Parquet.
  • Experience writing and validating unit tests. Preferred Skills
  • Experience with NiFi, Apache Airflow, or similar data pipeline orchestration tools.
  • Experience with Java or Scala.
  • Experience administering EMR/Spark clusters.
  • Experience performing Spark job performance tuning.
  • Experience supporting Hive, Iceberg, or similar SQL-based data access technologies.
  • Experience developing cloud-based security solutions.
  • Experience following configuration management and code deployment processes.
