Your journey starts now—protect and innovate with MANTECH! MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented System Safety Engineer to join our team in Cape Canaveral, FL area. This is a full-time onsite position. This position provides Launch System Safety support to the
SSC AATS NSSL
Launch Vehicle Mission Assurance (LVMA) Teams as part of the System Engineering & Integration II Contract. Work will include launch base support to various Government launch programs along with coordination efforts with their respective launch processing facilities and launch complexes, including the United Launch Alliance Vulcan family of launch vehicles and SpaceX Falcon/Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. It may also include support for new Launch Service Providers as they are brought on contract. This position also serves as a launch site safety expert for the government mission management team on mission-related technical and operational requirements. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform technical analysis of safety and environmental issues associated with spacecraft/launch vehicle design and processing operations. Evaluate and assess Launch Service Provider (LSP) processing activities and provide technical assessments for readiness review processes. Monitor safety compliance with SSCMAN 91-710, MIL-STD-882E, and
DAFI 91-202
standards while assessing safety-critical components and flight termination systems. Prepare and update critical Government Acquisition Program documents, including Programmatic Environment, Safety and Health Evaluations (PESHE) and System Safety Mitigation Plans. Collaborate and coordinate safety program tasks with offsite teammates and provide liaison support between AATS and CCSFS safety organizations. Document mission safety by creating mishap binders and periodic reports to ensure continued acquisition compliance. Support innovation, process improvement, and project planning to enhance mission support capabilities and efficiency for the 5th Space Launch Squadron.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline. 4 + years of experience in Systems Safety or relevant field 2 + years relevant DoD/Launch/Range/Spacelift experience. Familiarity with Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) facilities, processes, providers, and operations. Flexibility to support mission operations during non-standard business hours/days with expectation to perform those duties over multiple attempts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experienced in working with senior Government program managers and various contractor support personnel as well as in a multi-disciplinary, geographically separated team environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and knowledgeable on Platform 1 tools (i.e. Confluence, MatterMost, Jira). Effective communication skills with ability to provide briefings to large groups and leadership.
Clearance Requirements:
Active DoD SECRET clearance required to start.
Physical Requirements:
The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations, and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
