TDA Director- Wilkes Tourism Development Authority

Wilkes County and/or the Wilkes Tourism Development Authority is seeking applicants for the position of Wilkes Tourism Development Authority Director. An employee in this position should be a motivated, outgoing professional who thrives in the role of community spark plug. The expansive Blue Ridge foothills destination with two state parks combines both rural and small-town living. The office is based in Wilkesboro, N.C. This pro will inherit excellent brand research and positioning for the Great State of Wilkes and an enthusiastic, growing tourism economy with vibrant partners. The ideal candidate is a friendly storyteller who can flex to meet the audiences and business owners in a variety of settings. This person would be at ease: Coordinate and oversee monthly TDA meetings. Provide Quarterly updates to elected officials. Guiding tours of our nationally recognized wineries and distilleries in Wilkes County. Work behind the scenes to promote MerleFest, FaithFest, the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway and other events in Wilkes County. Helping small tourism businesses launch and succeed Providing input on our trails, outdoor venues and growing the outdoor travel market Meeting with regional officials, local business owners and elected officials about the ways tourism contributes to economic development and community pride. This person will work solo in a lean, contractor-staffed organization, guided by a supportive Development Authority with a board of business-focused professionals. Candidate will be responsible for developing relationships with hotel operators and Short-term vacation rental owners, driving stays to all properties in Wilkes County. The ideal candidate thrives with minimal oversight, meets deadlines, and brings equal parts desk discipline and people skills. The TDA Director will brainstorm, collaborate, and succeed by managing creative contractors for public relations, social media, website, copywriting, and graphic design to produce on-brand campaigns and exciting content across all channels. Currently, the Director buys advertising (across all platforms) and executes on brand, on schedule, and within budget.

Preferred:

Three years of experience in destination marketing, tourism management, communications, marketing, or a closely related field, with demonstrated success managing contractors or vendors to meet deadlines. Familiarity with digital marketing, paid media, social media, and content strategy. Experience reporting to a governing board and/or public authority is a plus. Open until filled. Pay:
