m., plus a total of 8.0 additional hours for set-up and wrap-up and will be paid on the August 31, 2026, payroll.
Summary:
This position is part of our program for special needs students supervised by the Office of Special Services for elementary and secondary special needs students from throughout the District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of special needs students. Develops, implements and monitors Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students; and modifies instructional programs to meet individual student needs. Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve academic essential required learnings for special needs students in all curriculum areas. Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior. Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population. Maintains student records, including special education reports, daily grades, essential learnings data, cumulative records, orders, and inventory, in a timely and orderly fashion. Reports student progress to parents regularly. Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology. Participates in child guidance discussions to provide appropriate programs for the developmental level of each student, this position works primarily with secondary students. Participates in team and individual instructional planning, which includes writing daily lesson plans. Participates in staff meetings, planning events, IEP and related meetings, and department/special education meetings. Participates in total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities. Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Minimum Requirements:
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate for special education. Candidates must be able to meet the Highly Qualified standards as defined by Washington State in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (formerly No Child Left Behind Act). Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment. Demonstrated successful teaching experience with disabled students preferred primarily at the secondary level. Willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading, writing and math skills aimed at assisting special needs students. Strong coursework and background in remedial reading, guided reading, writing and language arts. Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods by participating in classes, workshops, in-services, peer coaching, reading, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of new technology and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs. Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others.
