PRIMARY FUNCTION
To develop in each pupil an understanding of the components of health related fitness, an appreciation for maintaining a relatively high level of cardiovascular endurance, an acute sense of fair play, a desire to participate in the intramural program, a moderate level of skill in a wide variety of sport and adventure activities, and a focus on a positive self concept gained through active participation.

Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to learners; student management The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. 2. Works cooperatively and follows county guidelines in the teaching of required units of instruction. 3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of all required units of instruction. 4. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 5. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas. 6. Manages the issue, use and storage of all school-owned instructional texts, supplies, and equipment. 7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment. 8. Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in sports participation. 9. Maintains professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities. 10. Requisitions and inventories supplies, equipment, and instructional aids in concert with county guidelines. 11. Communicates with parents, administrators, and school counselors on pupil progress. 12. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 13. Participates in faculty committees, the sponsorship of student activities, and curriculum development. 14. Supervises the intramural program. 15. Meets expectations according to the regular middle school teacher job description. 16. Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents. 17. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
