Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate part-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized educational support to students with visual impairments. This role offers flexible hours (5.5 direct hours per week and 2 hours of consult per month) at a rate of $100 per hour, focusing on empowering students to achieve their full potential through tailored instruction and comprehensive support. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, expertise in visual impairment education, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes independence, literacy, and academic success. Duties Deliver specialized instruction for children with visual impairments Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, parents, and other specialists to coordinate services and ensure consistency across educational settings. Provide training and support on the use of assistive technology, braille literacy, and other tools essential for visually impaired students' learning. Incorporate sensory integration techniques, behavioral therapy strategies, and recreational therapy methods to enhance student engagement. Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP goals, and instructional activities while ensuring compliance with educational standards and regulations. Qualifications Proven experience working with children with visual impairments or disabilities in educational or therapeutic settings. Strong knowledge of visually impaired education techniques, including braille literacy, learning technology, and assistive devices. Background in special education, early intervention, or preschool education is highly desirable. Familiarity with curriculum development for diverse learners, including those with autism or developmental disabilities. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with families, educators, and healthcare professionals. Ability to design engaging lesson plans that incorporate music therapy, recreational activities, and behavioral management strategies. Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or equivalent qualification preferred; relevant training in speech therapy or applied behavior analysis is a plus.
