Mifflintown, PA Juniata County Early Childhood Services in Mifflintown, PA has an anticipated opening for a Pre-K Counts Teacher. The following is a list of items that count as instruction time: Classroom Instruction. Orientation of children during regular school hours to the program, program settings and routines. Meals/snack-time, as long as they are integral parts of the curriculum facilitated by the Lead Teacher and used for student learning experiences. Play-time, including outdoor and indoor play or child directed activities as long as they are an integral part of the instructional day, facilitated by the lead teacher and used for student experiences. Time spent at the library, and in art, music or physical education. Opening exercises that engage children, including opening circle time, in preparation for the day. School, group or class educational trips. Develops an individual plan for each child to include goal setting based on identified needs and objectives and activities to meet established goals (outcomes). Screens, observes and documents children's progress related to individual goals. Makes appropriate referrals to the Early Intervention provider for children who are identified in need of further support services. Collaborates with Early Intervention provider for children receiving services. Work collaboratively with other agencies (such as Head Start, preschools, day care, or mental health services, etc.) to coordinate services and maximize resources. Supervises and eats nutritionally prepared meals/snacks with the children as a curriculum activity, to model good nutrition and proper social skills. Encourage children to serve themselves whenever possible. Understands regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination. Sets up system to assure program's needs for parent involvement in each classroom are met. Establishes positive and productive relationships with families focusing on a relationship of trust and rapport with the parents of the children. Participates in the orientation of parents to the program. Schedules and arranges meetings, and documents parent-teacher conference/home visits as required. Involves parents in the educational activities of the program: Emphasize their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development. Assist parents to increase their knowledge, understanding, skills and experiences in basic child development. Assist families and children in transitioning into Kindergarten. Directs and supervises teacher aides, classroom staff and volunteers. Monitors employee performance and classroom activities. Conducts competency assessments and performance evaluation of assigned staff and volunteers. Submits daily attendance records to direct Supervisor. Submits monthly reports as needed or scheduled to direct Supervisor. Gathers and maintains individual, family and classroom data for documentation, on-going assessment, evaluation and record keeping for successful individual and program planning. Attend the PA Pre-K Counts Core Series of Professional Development within the first two years of hire for the position. Obtain at a minimum of 24 hours of professional development must be obtained annually with at least 50 percent or 12 hours specific to early childhood education. Perform other duties as assigned.
