Main Purpose of Job Key Responsibilities:
1. Create a Supportive Learning Environment Establish a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom atmosphere where students feel respected, valued, and motivated to engage in learning. 2. Develop and Deliver Engaging Instruction Design and implement dynamic lesson plans tailored to the diverse needs, learning styles, and abilities of students, fostering both academic growth and personal development. 3. Employ Effective Teaching Strategies Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies, strategies, and technologies to enhance student engagement and create meaningful learning experiences. 4. Monitor and Support Student Progress Conduct regular assessments, both formative and summative, to evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and offer individualized support to ensure academic success. 5. Collaborate with a Multidisciplinary Team Work closely with social workers, counselors, administrators, and other professionals to create comprehensive plans that address individual student challenges and promote overall success. 6. Promote Restorative Practices Implement restorative approaches and conflict resolution techniques to cultivate positive relationships among students and foster accountability, responsibility, and personal growth. 7. Serve as a Mentor and Role Model Demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding while encouraging positive behavior, responsible decision-making, and resilience. 8. Engage with Families and Guardians Maintain open and consistent communication with students' families or guardians, providing updates on academic performance, behavior, and any concerns, while fostering a partnership for student success. 9. Stay Informed on Educational Best Practices Remain current with the latest research, strategies, and interventions in youth education, continuously refining teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students. 10. Commit to Professional Growth Participate in professional development opportunities, training sessions, and workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness and uphold a high standard of professional excellence. This comprehensive approach ensures a positive, transformative impact on the educational and personal development of the youth we serve.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educator License. •Please Note:
Candidates who do not immediately meet this requirement may become eligible by applying for a Maryland Teaching license at Apply for MSDE Certification .DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Active licensure in one or more of the following content areas: English, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, ESOL, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or School Counseling. 2. A minimum of one year of teaching experience, which may include internship experience. 3. Current active certification issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595. Additional educational credits beyond the Advanced Professional Certificate must meet the following criteria established by the Institutional Educators Pay Plan Committee in order to qualify for application toward the APC plus 30 (60) levels: Credits must be beyond the education level held at the time the educational requirements for the Advanced Professional Certificate were met and must either relate to the current job responsibilities or be part of an employer approved program of study. Credits mean semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university or Maryland State Department of Education approved workshops. No more than one half of any additional credits applied to these criteria may be earned through Maryland Department of Education approved workshops.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing as outlined in Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) 17.04.09 , which addresses the testing for illegal drug use. As part of the hiring process, applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) investigations/background checks , which are standard procedures for all employees working in State Juvenile Services facilities. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States, as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act , must be provided upon hire. Additionally, employment is contingent upon obtaining at least a Conditional Maryland Teaching Certificate . If it is determined after hiring that the incumbent does not qualify for this certification or fails to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate, employment will be terminated.SELECTION PROCESS
