Job Opening Information Teacher's Aide (6.5 Hours) - HS Application Deadline 5/23/2026 Position Start Date 9/3/2026 Position Title Teacher's Aide (6.5 Hours) - HS Required Application Type School Related Personnel Salary/Pay Scale Starting $16.50/hr actual pay based on experience Job Description The District has an anticipated vacancy for a (6.5 hours) Teacher Aide, located at South Glens Falls High School. This position will split its time between building aide support (such as study hall, cafeteria duties, hall duties, etc.) at the HS and supporting students in the 12:1:1 special education program (such as supporting students on internship, academic support, etc).
DESCRIPTION
This work involves responsibility of routine classroom duties and non-professional tasks to assist teachers in the classroom. Duties include performance of mechanical functions such as managing records and materials, attending to student physical needs, helping students with clothing, monitoring students, having students line up, distributing and collecting papers. Specific tasks will vary depending on the grade level to which an incumbent is assigned.

A Teacher Aide works under the general supervision of a teacher or a principal
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
(•Illustrative Only) Supervises and works with groups of students; Keeps simple records such as recording grades or completion of homework assignments, as directed by the teacher; Assist in data collection; Assist students with physical/special needs in areas such as personal hygiene habits, toileting activities, tying shoes, putting on clothes; Assists teacher in routine classroom preparation duties, such as making student folders, making charts schedules, posters and bulletin boards all at the direction of the teacher; Helps teacher to set up classroom by distributing and/or gathering materials and setting up equipment; Supervises and monitors class when teacher is out of room; Make photocopies of materials for classes and lessons; Perform miscellaneous student-centered clerical duties as assigned; Provides a good example to students in areas of cleanliness and proper manners; Assists teachers by helping students to stay focused, pay attention and participate by reminding students to listen when the teacher is giving instructions; May oversee a study hall classroom; May have other duties, not limited to: arrival, dismissal, lunch room, hall duty; Maintain attendance records and seating charts; Organized and participates in group games and related activities; Reads and tells stories to children; Assists in implementing good behavior management routines and techniques; May proctor exams; May assist teachers in proctoring tests; May assist teachers and students in computer operations; May assist in setting up lab equipment as well as other various equipment in a classroom; May write down homework and take class notes for students; May perform other related duties as assigned by school administrators. •Typical Work Activities are intended only as illustrations of possible types of work that might be appropriately assigned to an incumbent of this title. Work activities that do not appear are not excluded as appropriate work assignments, as long as they can be reasonably understood to be within the logical limits of the job.
SALARY & BENEFITS
10-Month Position (based on the school calendar, inclusive of Superintendent's Conference Days and Regents Rating Day); 6.5 Hours per Day NYS Retirement Health & Dental Insurance Applicable benefits pursuant to current CSEA Contract Civil Service Title Teacher's Aide Job Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of classroom routine; Ability to establish good relationships with students, teachers coworkers; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to establish and maintain discipline; Tact; courtesy; dependability; initiative and resourcefulness; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
