Job Description
Position Summary Fortegra is seeking an experienced Actuarial Systems Developer to serve as the dedicated technology partner for the Actuarial Department. This role is responsible for developing and supporting the systems, data architecture, automation, and business intelligence solutions that enable actuarial functions including reserving, IFRS 17, regulatory reporting, management reporting, and actuarial analytics. Working directly with actuaries, this individual will modernize actuarial processes by reducing manual effort, improving data quality, building scalable applications, and establishing a governed actuarial data environment. The position plays a critical role in Fortegra's actuarial transformation strategy by enabling actuaries to spend less time preparing data and more time performing actuarial analysis. While the role will collaborate with IT and other business areas to obtain and integrate data, its primary responsibility is supporting the Actuarial Department and its evolving technology needs. Key Responsibilities Application Development & Automation Design, develop, implement, and maintain applications supporting actuarial operations. Develop automation that eliminates manual and Excel-based workflows. Build reusable tools and utilities that improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability across actuarial functions. Develop custom applications, scripts, APIs, and workflows that streamline actuarial processes. Support the ongoing modernization of actuarial systems and technology. Data Engineering & Architecture Design, develop, and maintain actuarial data pipelines and ETL processes. Build and maintain a centralized actuarial data repository and single source of truth. Develop scalable relational data models supporting reserving, IFRS 17, actuarial studies, regulatory reporting, and management reporting. Create automated data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes. Partner with IT to integrate enterprise data while maintaining actuarial ownership of business requirements. Business Intelligence & Technology Develop interactive dashboards and self-service reporting that provide timely insights into reserving, claims, experience studies, operational KPIs, and executive reporting. Evaluate, prototype, and implement technologies that improve actuarial processes and reporting. Research AI-assisted development, automation, and modern development tools applicable to actuarial operations. Establish coding standards, documentation, reusable code libraries, and development best practices. Collaborate with IT on architecture, security, and enterprise technology standards while serving as the technical resource dedicated to the Actuarial Department. Primary Areas Supported Reserving, including quarterly reserve analyses, reserve monitoring, long-duration reserve analyses, experience studies, and actuarial management reporting. IFRS 17, Annual Statement, Schedule P, regulatory and reinsurance reporting, business intelligence, actuarial data management, automation, data preparation, and data governance. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications, automation solutions, business intelligence, or data engineering platforms. Experience supporting insurance or financial services is preferred, with Property & Casualty experience strongly preferred. Experience working with actuarial, finance, or insurance data is highly desirable. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate actuarial business requirements into technical solutions.
