Life Actuary Senior USAA - United Services Automobile Association Insurance Plano, TX - USA Senior Specialist / Project Manager Show compensation Apply now Save position Experteer Overview In this Life Actuary role at USAA, you translate actuarial analysis into business decisions that affect profitability, growth, and risk appetite. You will apply risk management expertise to develop and price products, reserve appropriately, and advise leadership on strategic trade-offs. You'll mentor junior team members while leading cross-functional projects in a regulated, mission-driven environment. This position emphasizes translating complex actuarial findings into actionable insights that support safe, sustainable growth.

Review laws and regulations for compliance and suggest process improvements. Share expertise with the team and leadership, addressing escalated issues. Serve as Subject Matter Expert in areas like Product Pricing, Reserving, Economic Capital, Modeling, ALM. Lead project teams across cross-functional actuarial areas through full lifecycle of initiatives. Develop exhibits and reports that communicate proposals clearly to stakeholders. Identify business problems and present independent, data-driven recommendations. Maintain appropriate price levels and data availability to meet profitability targets. Monitor critical assumptions and address unfavorable trends in a timely manner. Assess and quantify risks to ensure alignment with risk and compliance policies. Key requirements Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree Actuarial credentials: Fellow (FSA) or Associate (ASA) with substantial actuarial experience Experience leading complex cross-functional projects in actuarial areas Demonstrated ability to document, train, and present to management Strong understanding of life insurance models, product design, pricing, underwriting, distribution, and in-force management Ability to translate actuarial analysis into actionable business insights Experience quantifying financial risks (mortality, lapse, interest rates, credit) and effects on earnings and capital Familiarity with regulatory/ accounting frameworks (statutory, GAAP) Proficiency with actuarial tools and data analysis (AXIS, SQL, Python, R) Track record of cross-functional collaboration with finance, investments, product, and leadership Cross-functional collaboration Effective communication Mentoring and knowledge sharing
