PURPOSE:
The Assistant Director for Analytics leads the analytics team in the Data Systems and Analytics Department (DSA). This position is responsible for advising Senior-level leadership across SEIU and its affiliates on targeting, membership trends and opportunities, and program evaluation for SEIU's organizing, membership, and political efforts. The Assistant Director for Analytics will split their time between writing code and playing a key role in developing and guiding analysts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads and manages the team that is responsible for developing research methodologies, implementing those approaches, and providing strategic guidance to DSA and SEIU leadership.
Primary responsibilities include:
Oversight of the development of standards and protocol for analytical and special projects. Create and make recommendations on statistical models for growing the labor movement Manage ad hoc analysis projects and program evaluation, balancing the priorities of multiple stakeholders including department directors and executive officers Implement a data equity framework to continually improve fairness, inclusivity, and transparency in every project Supervise analyst(s) with an emphasis on helping them grow their technical and professional skills Use of Agile practices to document and monitor the progress of the team Review code to ensure that SEIU is using best practices. Consult on new projects under the guidance of the DSA Deputy Director of Analytics and Engineering and in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders on creative solutions to analytics challenges Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING
This position reports to the DSA Deputy Director of Analytics and Engineering in the Data Systems and Analytics Department. Exercises independent judgment and makes decisions that may determine the success or failure of SEIU's analytics program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
At least 6 years of related work experience and 1 year of supervisory experience or or combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Experience managing multiple stakeholders and external vendors and can clearly articulate risks and dependencies on projects Strong technical background in statistical analysis with expertise in at least one analytics domain area: (Machine Learning, Predictive Modeling, Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, Program Analysis, Field Experiments) 6+ years of experience working primarily in data/analytics 3+ years of experience with Python including familiarity with concepts like: Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn. Equivalent experience in R is also welcomed as long as you're willing to learn Python A deep understanding of SQL and familiarity with popular data warehouses, such as Redshift Experience in an Agile Environment, preferably using JIRA Ability to explain analytics concepts to stakeholders and ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral presentation A high level of judgment, leadership, and commitment to the goals of SEIU and its leaders Preferred Skills Knowledge of labor unions and their operations is helpful Experience with: Gitlab-CI, Apache Airflow, DBT, REST API interactions, ETL/ELT Proficiency in Google Sheets
