About the AI Applications Chair (AIAC) The AI Applications Chair (AIAC) at the University of Nizwa is a flagship researchand innovation unit dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence across strategic national sectors. Operating in alignment with OmanVision 2040, AIAC conducts applied and fundamental AI research, develops intelligent platforms for healthcare, banking, education, andgovernment, and delivers capacity-building programs for industry and academia. The Chair maintains active international collaborationsand actively seeks world-class researchers to join its growing team.

Specializations:

Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a closely related field. Area &Key Responsibilities; Research & Innovation; Conduct high-impact AI research aligned with AIAC's strategic themes,including healthcare, Energy, natural Resources, Education, and NLP. Develop novel models, algorithms, and architectures that addressreal-world challenges in Oman and the broader GCC region. Platform & System Development; Design and build AI-poweredapplications and platforms. Contribute to active projects under AIAC, including diagnostic AI systems, smart communication tools, andapplied data science solutions for government and industry. Grant Proposal Writing; Co-author and lead research grantproposals targeting national (TRC, URG) and international funding bodies. Manage deliverables and milestones for funded projects. Publication & Dissemination; Publish research outcomes in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present at internationalconferences. Represent AIAC at academic and industry events globally. Mentorship & Training; Supervise graduate students andjunior researchers. Contribute to AI training programs and workshops aimed at capacity building across academic and professionalcommunities. Collaboration & Partnerships; Engage with national institutions, industry partners, and internationalcollaborators (including partner universities and research networks) to broaden AIAC's research impact and visibility.•Qualifications; PhD in the field of specialization (Master's degree &Bachelor's degree should be in the same field of general specialization) from a recognized university. Strong publication record inpeer-reviewed AI/ML venues (IEEE, ACM, Springer, etc.) Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, deep learning, orNLP. Hands-on AI/ML development skills (Python,TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent). Ability to independently lead and manageresearch projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Preferred Qua lifications; Experience in Explainable AI (XAI), GeoAI, or Healthcare AI Familiaritywith GIS, remote sensing, or satellite imagery analysis Experience developing AI-powered platforms or clinical decision supportsystems Knowledge of SHAP, LIME, TabNet, or similar interpretable ML tools Prior grant writing or research fundingacquisition experience Experience mentoring graduate students or junior researchers Core Technical Skills &Tools'; AI/ML Frameworks; Python, R / TensorFlow / Keras / PyTorch / Scikit-learn Hugging FaceTransformers.
