Employment Solutions is partnering with a growing industrial distribution company to find an AI Engineer to own AI development end to end. This is a hands-on builder's role for someone who understands how modern AI systems actually fit together, models, orchestration, data, and infrastructure, and uses that understanding to design the company's own AI operating system: where data lives, how it moves, which tools reason over it, and how agents get built on top of it. This is a builder, not a strategist who hands off to someone else. You'll write code, build agents, work side by side with AI tools to ship fast, and be measured on how quickly ideas become working tools in production.
Responsibilities:
Own the company's AI roadmap and architecture end to end; this is full ownership, not an advisory role Identify and prioritize high-leverage AI use cases across sales, operations, procurement, finance, and the warehouse Serve as the go-to expert on what's possible with current AI tools and turn that into concrete, shippable projects Design and maintain the core AI architecture, effectively the company's own AI operating system, covering how models, orchestration tools, and data stores connect Decide where data should live and how it should flow between core business systems (ERP, CRM, WMS, and customer support platforms) and AI tools Evaluate and evolve the orchestration layer as needs grow (currently Make.com) against alternatives such as n8n, Boomi, or MuleSoft - Build, deploy, and maintain AI agents that automate real workflows: quoting, customer service, procurement, routing, reporting, and more Pair large language models (Claude, ChatGPT) as reasoning engines with orchestration tools and custom code to build reliable, production-grade agents Write and ship production code (Python, APIs, FastAPI, and similar), using AI coding tools to multiply speed and output Build real applications and integrations where no-code tools aren't enough Work directly with department leaders to find automation opportunities and translate them into technical builds Train and support staff adoption of AI tools and agents across the company Document architecture and builds clearly enough that others can maintain or extend them Maintain data integrity, security, and access control across AI systems and integrations Monitor, test, and maintain production agents so they stay reliable as the business scales
Qualifications:
Strong, demonstrated understanding of how AI systems fit together, models, orchestration, data storage, and agent design, not just prompting Hands-on experience building AI agents and automations in production, not just prototypes Solid coding ability (Python and APIs at minimum) and comfort using AI tools to write and ship code quickly Experience with automation and orchestration platforms (Make.com, n8n, Zapier, or similar) Self-directed and fast, comfortable owning a project end to end with minimal oversight in a get-it-done environment Strong communicator who can translate technical work for non-technical department leaders
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Make.com specifically Experience with Databricks or similar data platforms Experience in distribution or another non-tech industry Ready to build and ship real AI in production? Apply today!
