Job Description A construction company in South Seattle is building a next-generation AI capability within its software engineering organization, focused on rapidly incubating and prototyping AI-driven solutions across the business. This team operates as an innovation hub—crowdsourcing ideas from various divisions, evaluating their impact, and transforming them into scalable, production-ready solutions. As an AI Engineer, you will play a critical role in taking early-stage ideas through rapid prototyping and into development. This is a highly hands-on position designed for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys breaking down complex problems, and is motivated to build practical AI solutions that drive real business outcomes. Skills and Requirements 5+ years of experience within Software Engineering, with 2+ years' experience with AI Engineering Strong problem-solving ability with an engineering-first mindset Experience building or contributing to AI/ML projects (academic, professional, or personal) with clear examples of work Proficiency in software engineering fundamentals with a bias toward building scalable solutions Hands-on experience with LLMs (e.g., Claude, Gemini, GPT) and applying them to real-world problems Experience with React and TypeScript for building front-end interfaces Solid understanding of data handling and querying (SQL strongly preferred) Ability to break down complex problems into actionable solutions and iterate quickly Self-starter mentality—"smart and hungry" profile with strong ownership mindset Background in Mechanical Engineering or experience working in engineering-driven environments Experience conducting root cause analysis and debugging complex systems Exposure to rapid prototyping environments or innovation/incubation teams Experience building internal tools, automation frameworks, or enterprise AI applications
