Job Description
Minimum Qualifications Intern must be working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, finance, statistics or related field Founded in 2006, Optumas works primarily with State Medicaid agencies and Medicaid Managed Care Plans, providing guidance and strategy to help them remain efficient and effective purchasers of healthcare services. Optumas is also on the forefront of healthcare reform initiatives, helping multiple states weigh the opportunities and consequences created by constantly changing healthcare delivery and payment systems. Optumas is seeking motivated actuarial / financial students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare consulting. Interns are provided with a broad range of experiences and opportunity to gain experience learning new skills through active participation as part of a client team. Responsibilities include attending client conference calls, performing various analytical project work, and completing on the job training. Essential Functions and Primary Duties Performing and reviewing analysis of health care data using Excel Analysis, data manipulation and summarization of large health care data sets using statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS, WPS, Access and SPSS) Balancing multiple projects and effectively managing time to ensure successful completion by deadlines Internal communication and presentation of analyses Preferred Qualifications Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Interest in healthcare finance and policy Ability to fit in and work with a driven, dedicated team Exposure to data analytical programming (SAS, SQL, WPS, Python) is beneficial but not required Successful completion of actuarial exams is beneficial but not required
