Bioinformatics Scientist National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Research Triangle Park, NC (Telework Eligible)
Salary:
$100,000 - $160,000 per year Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week About the Opportunity A-Team Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to support the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). This position will provide advanced bioinformatics expertise to support cutting-edge biomedical research, with a primary focus on single-cell and spatial omics data analysis , large-scale genomic datasets, machine learning applications, and integrative multi-omics research. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of researchers, statisticians, computational biologists, and laboratory scientists to generate meaningful biological insights from complex datasets and contribute to groundbreaking scientific discoveries. Key Responsibilities Bioinformatics & Computational Biology Develop, implement, and optimize analytical pipelines for single-cell and spatial omics data. Perform computational analyses of high-throughput sequencing datasets, including: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) Single-cell ATAC sequencing (scATAC-seq) Multi-omics datasets Spatial transcriptomics Bulk RNA sequencing ChIP-Seq miRNA-Seq Analyze and integrate complex multi-omic datasets to identify biologically meaningful patterns and discoveries. Design and execute computational experiments supporting NIEHS research initiatives. Data Analysis & Statistical Modeling Apply advanced statistical methodologies and machine learning approaches to biological datasets. Develop innovative analytical methods to evaluate trends, patterns, and relationships within complex datasets. Perform data quality assessment, harmonization, integration, and interpretation. Utilize public and internally generated datasets to support scientific investigations. Establish reproducible analytical workflows and standardized operating procedures. Programming & Pipeline Development Develop custom software, scripts, utilities, algorithms, and computational workflows. Build and maintain bioinformatics infrastructure supporting large-scale research projects. Troubleshoot, install, configure, and maintain scientific software and computational tools. Support cloud computing and high-performance computing (HPC) environments. Develop scalable and reproducible bioinformatics pipelines for analysis and reporting. Scientific Collaboration & Research Support Collaborate with investigators and laboratory personnel to develop experimental designs and analytical strategies. Advise researchers on computational methods, study design, and data interpretation. Participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with internal and external research teams. Support data-driven decision making through scientific consultation and technical expertise. Contribute to collaborative projects involving computational and experimental research teams. Scientific Reporting & Publications Prepare scientific reports, technical documentation, progress summaries, and presentations. Create publication-quality figures, tables, graphs, and visualizations. Present findings at laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and collaborative research forums. Contribute to manuscript preparation, publication development, and data submission activities. Deliver scientific presentations to audiences both within and outside of government organizations. Training & Knowledge Sharing Provide training and technical support for bioinformatics software, workflows, and analytical methodologies. Conduct workshops and hands-on training sessions for investigators and research staff. Mentor students, scientists, and laboratory personnel in computational data analysis approaches. Develop documentation supporting software, pipelines, and analytical procedures. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Minimum three (3) years of relevant bioinformatics experience. Experience with single-cell omics data analysis. Demonstrated experience working with large-scale biological datasets. Strong programming and analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
