Senior Business Intelligence Engineer Job Description:
Job Overview The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-grade business intelligence solutions across a complex and diverse data ecosystem. This role focuses on analyzing, integrating, modeling, and visualizing data from multiple internal and external sources—including Workday, UKG, JD Edwards (JDE), enterprise data warehouses, cloud-based data platforms, and third-party API connectors—to deliver clear, accurate, and user-friendly dashboards and reports that support data-driven decision-making across the organization. Roles & Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. Business Intelligence & Reporting Design, develop, and maintain enterprise BI dashboards and reports using data from HRIS, ERP, financial, operational, and analytical systems. Translate business requirements into scalable, high-quality reporting solutions and intuitive visualizations. Deliver clear, concise, and user-friendly dashboards for executive, operational, and analytical audiences. Establish and maintain standardized KPIs, metrics, and reporting definitions across reporting platforms. Data Integration & Modeling Extract, transform, and model data from on-premises and cloud-based data warehouses as well as third-party APIs and connectors. Partner with data engineering and integration teams to ensure reliable, accurate, and trusted datasets. Design semantic layers and reporting models optimized for performance, usability, and scalability. Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems. SQL & Technical Development Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries across large and diverse datasets. Perform query tuning and performance optimization to support scalable analytics solutions. BI Platforms & Tools Build and support solutions using Microsoft BI technologies including Power BI, SQL Server, SSRS, and SSAS, as well as other reporting tools as required. Support governed self-service BI while maintaining role-based security and data quality standards. Documentation & Collaboration Create and maintain clear documentation for dashboards, reports, data models, and metric definitions. Communicate insights through written reports, visualizations, and presentations tailored to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior BI engineers and analysts. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - 3/2026 Dashboard adoption and satisfaction by business stakeholders. On-time delivery of high-quality dashboards and reports. Reliable, accurate, and trusted datasets across Workday, UKG, JDE, data warehouses, and API sources. Optimized query and dashboard performance (fast refresh and responsive visuals). Well-documented metrics, definitions, and report catalog for self-service enablement. Qualification To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience). 10+ years of professional experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering roles, with demonstrated progression in responsibility and scope. Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale BI solutions across multiple systems and data sources (e.g., Workday, UKG, JDE, data warehouses, cloud platforms, and APIs). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Advanced SQL expertise including complex joins, window functions, and performance tuning. Strong experience with Microsoft BI tools (Power
BI, SSRS, SSAS, SQL
Server) and modern reporting platforms. Ability to translate complex technical and analytical concepts into clear, user-friendly dashboards and reports. Effective communication abilities across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide mentorship and technical guidance to BI analysts and engineers. Compensation:
$130,000-$145,000 per year
