Job Description

ChopAir is a nationwide HVAC manufacturer's representative with deep expertise in the equipment we represent. We partner closely with engineers, contractors, and end users to support commercial and industrial HVAC projects—from early concept and system design through installation and long-term operation. What sets ChopAir apart is how we show up: Old-school, in-person service — responsive, accessible, and relationship-driven Mastery in design — experienced experts helping shape the right system from the start Integrity in supply — representing best-in-class products from top manufacturers Stewardship in buildout — ensuring projects run smoothly from start to finish We don't just supply equipment—we are a trusted partner throughout the entire project lifecycle. Job Summary ChopAir is hiring a Niagara Programmer to support the rapid growth of our BMS business. This person will work closely with our Director of Building Management Systems, software development team, HVAC specialists, installation partners, and customers to design, program, implement, commission, and troubleshoot building automation systems. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking technical ownership of projects and who can move quickly when field issues arise. This is not a position where the engineer only produces drawings or sits behind a computer. The Niagara Programmer will be involved from system design through startup and ongoing support. Key Responsibilities Design complete building management and building automation control systems. Develop sequences of operation and controls strategies. Select controllers, sensors, networking components, panels, and other controls hardware. Develop control drawings, points lists, network architecture, and system documentation. Program controllers and supervisory systems. Configure BACnet and other building automation communication networks. Develop and configure graphics, dashboards, alarms, trends, schedules, and user interfaces. Commission new BMS installations and verify proper operation. Troubleshoot programming, communications, controller, sensor, and field-device issues. Travel to project sites when necessary to diagnose and quickly resolve problems. Coordinate with HVAC contractors, electricians, controls installers, mechanical engineers, general contractors, and building owners. Work directly with ChopAir's in-house software development team on integration between field controls and our broader BMS platform. Support our Director of Building Management Systems and the sales team during system design, estimating, and technical customer discussions. Create standardized programming, documentation, and controls architecture that can be reused as the BMS division grows. Provide technical support after project completion. Ideal Experience The strongest candidate will have hands-on experience with Tridium Niagara , preferably including Niagara 4. Experience with any of the following would also be valuable: Siemens Johnson Controls Honeywell Vykon Lynxspring BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP Modbus HVAC control sequences VAV systems RTUs AHUs MAUs Exhaust systems Hydronic systems Temperature, humidity, dewpoint, pressure, and other environmental sensors What We Care About Most The person does not need to come from a specific controls manufacturer. We care much more about whether they can actually: Design it → Program it → Start it up → Troubleshoot it → Fix it. A strong Niagara programmer who understands HVAC systems and is comfortable getting into the field would be particularly valuable. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of building automation or controls experience. Strong experience with Tridium Niagara/Niagara 4. Niagara certification is highly preferred. Ability to read mechanical plans, electrical drawings, and control diagrams. Understanding of HVAC equipment and sequences of operation. Experience commissioning and troubleshooting BAS/BMS systems. Comfortable communicating directly with customers and contractors. Willingness to travel to project sites as required. Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects. HVAC experience is preferred but not required.
