Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA to support and manage complex legacy database environments for a long-term project in Downey, CA. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in IBM mainframe technologies, database administration, systems programming, and database performance optimization across enterprise environments.
This role is focused on systems programming and DBA responsibilities and is not suitable for Mainframe Application Developers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support complex database upgrade, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and maintenance activities.
Manage and administer enterprise legacy database environments including:
IMS
DB2
ADABAS
Perform database health checks, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, and capacity planning.
Support database replication, compression, partitioning, and reorganizations.
Provide technical consulting to application development and operations teams for project planning and database architecture.
Develop logical and physical database designs.
Evaluate and fine-tune existing DBMS software solutions.
Ensure stability, security, and performance of production database systems.
Coordinate and lead technical reviews and database-related initiatives.

Required Experience
Minimum 7 years of experience as a Systems Programmer/DBA.
At least 3 years in a lead or senior technical role.
Strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise mainframe database environments.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Information
Hybrid role requiring onsite presence 2 days per week in Downey, CA.
Candidates must have experience specifically in Systems Programming/DBA functions.
