The successful candidate will develop an open-source program to update the functionality of the Simple Video Studio ( https://lib.utah.edu/spaces/simple-video-studio/ ). Final code and deployment configuration will be shared through an open-source code repository. This is a grant-funded position and will cap out at 320 total work hours. Primary programming will happen in Summer 2026, with implementation and usability in Fall Semester 2026. For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted. Responsibilities Develop a prompt-based, touch-screen activated system that will: Turn on and communicate with studio lights, microphone, video camera, and peripheral devices. Capture live video and audio with the ability to start and stop recording multiple times. Export a file with separate video and audio tracks to University-affiliated, cloud-based storage location(s).

Perform usability testing:

meet with real-world users, gather feedback, and implement necessary changes. Write user documentation and training materials. Upload final programming code and deployment configuration files to an open-source code repository. Minimum Qualifications Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and/or spring semesters. Preferences Demonstrated experience in building software to solve real-world problems. Experience writing and reviewing code and technical documentation. Familiarity with AV control system programming, systems integration, and automation. Ability to work alongside and collaborate with different personality styles.
