Overview An IT Assistant provides frontline technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students while gaining hands-on experience in information technology. This role is ideal for students interested in developing practical IT skills in a professional environment. Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
Assistance with special projects
Seasonal work
Emergencies

Provide first-level technical support to faculty, staff, and students for hardware, software, and network-related issues
Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral equipment
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to operating systems, standard software applications, and university systems
Assist with setup, operation, and troubleshooting of classroom and conference room technology (e.g., projectors, audiovisual equipment, Zoom/Teams systems)
Respond to and track service requests through a help desk or ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation
Perform routine system maintenance, including software updates, patches, and basic security checks
Assist with user account management tasks such as account setup, password resets, and access permissions
Maintain inventory of IT equipment and assist with asset tracking and documentation
Support network connectivity troubleshooting, including wired and wireless access issues (basic level)
Assist with hardware deployments, upgrades, and office moves
Follow university IT policies, security protocols, and data protection standards
Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users in a professional and courteous manner
Escalate complex technical issues to full-time IT staff as needed
Perform other IT-related duties as assigned to support departmental operations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required.
