AUBURN CITY SCHOOLS COMPUTER TECHNICIAN - 238 CONTRACT DAYS QUALIFICATIONS
Associates Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems preferred or equivalent training and experience. Ability to effectively work and communicate with administrators, supervisors, and staff. Experience in implementing data management systems networks, operating systems, software and peripherals. Possess a background in networking application software and hardware. Possess a strong background in hardware maintenance. Strong work ethic and dedication to assigned tasks. Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statues and State Board of Education regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to coordinate the development of the system's automated information systems, services and resources. Extensive knowledge of information processing requirements of schools and departments. Ability to work with professional and non-professional personnel and business people. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship between schools and departments. Ability to work in a diverse and highly technical environment effectively. Ability to maintain hardware and software platforms and communication devices.

JOB GOAL
To be able to troubleshoot, maintain and repair computer hardware and peripherals.
SUPERVISES
N/A
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Troubleshoot computer problems to determine hardware problem.
(2) Repair and perform remedial maintenance on computer equipment and related peripherals.
(3) Order parts as needed for computer maintenance and repairs.
(4) Fabricate and install cables as needed.
(5) Troubleshoot network related issues as needed.
(6) Install new computers, peripherals, and software.
(7) Install peripheral equipment upgrades and/or feature to exiting computers.
(8) Coordinate installation of new cabling for networks.
(9) Assist with software installation and support as needed or as time permits.
(10) Administer all activities necessary for the operation of the system's technical services.
(11) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems and unusual events.
(12) Maintain expertise in assigned areas.
(13) Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues.
(14) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner.
(15) Prepare and maintain all appropriate records.
(16) Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the system.
(17) Assist in implementing the system's goals and strategic commitment.
(18) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
(19) Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and facilitate task accomplishment.
(20) Troubleshoot and repair equipment when cost and time efficient.
(21) May be required to work beyond the 40-hour week.
(22) Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
EVALUATION
Job performance will be evaluated annually, by the Technology Director in accordance with provision of board policy. Job Description Supplement No. 01
