Job Description

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory seeks a VLBA Specialist to support operations of the Very Long Baseline Array in the Telecommunications & Media domain. In this role, you will operate and monitor VLBA antennas, RF and digital subsystems, and control systems to ensure reliable, high-quality astronomical observations. Responsibilities include maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and documentation of complex radio telescope systems while collaborating with scientists and engineers worldwide. Responsibilities Operate and monitor VLBA antennas and control systems to support scheduled observations Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and verification of RF, digital, and control subsystems Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues affecting telescope operations Coordinate with scientists and engineers to implement observing plans and system upgrades Document procedures, maintenance activities, and system performance metrics Support on-call or off-hours operations to ensure high system availability Follow safety and compliance standards for RF, electrical, and mechanical systems Required Skills Radio astronomy systems VLBI operations RF/analog electronics Digital signal processing Antenna control systems Linux system administration Networking and data transfer Technical troubleshooting Scientific instrumentation maintenance Documentation and technical reporting
