Repair Technician $18-20 Job Description The Repair Technician diagnoses, repairs, and refurbishes a wide range of computer equipment while providing clear, timely communication to customers and internal teams. This role combines hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting with customer interaction and escalation management to ensure high-quality, efficient repair services. Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair a variety of computer equipment, accurately diagnosing a broad range of hardware and software issues. Perform detailed diagnostics on returned and damaged products, including internal lab equipment, and document findings clearly. Execute "Test & Check" services on internal products to verify functionality, quality, and readiness for redeployment or resale. Interact with customers in person and through electronic communication, providing clear updates, diagnostics, and feedback throughout the repair process. Order replacement parts from vendors as needed, ensuring accuracy and timely processing of parts requests. Process and manage the return and exchange of parts, following established procedures and documentation requirements. Initiate escalation to appropriate technical or management resources when issues fall outside standard procedures or require additional expertise. Communicate issues, progress, and resolution status to management in a timely and accurate manner. Follow established repair, safety, and quality control procedures to maintain consistent standards of service. Maintain organized work areas and accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and customer interactions. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience in a computer repair environment. Proven experience troubleshooting hardware issues, including diagnosis, component replacement, and verification testing. Proven experience troubleshooting software issues, including operating systems and common applications. Hands-on experience ordering replacement parts from vendors and managing related documentation. Experience processing and managing the return and exchange of parts. Ability to interact professionally with customers in both face-to-face and electronic communication formats. Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to identify and resolve a wide range of computer-related issues. CompTIA A+ certification (required). Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with management and team members about issues and repair status. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills in a repair or lab environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with on-site repairs in customer environments is a plus. Customer-facing experience, including explaining technical issues in an understandable way, is preferred. Tier 1 vendor desktop, laptop, and server repair certifications from providers such as IBM, HP, Lenovo, Dell, or Apple are preferred. Experience refurbishing and reconditioning computer equipment is beneficial. Familiarity with both hardware and software troubleshooting tools and utilities. Comfort working with internal lab processes, including testing, checking, and handling returned or damaged products. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a technical repair and lab setting, working with desktop computers, laptops, servers, and related hardware from major vendors. Standard shifts are daytime hours, with the option to work either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., allowing you to choose the schedule that best fits your needs. You work with diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and software utilities to troubleshoot and verify repairs. The environment involves handling returned and damaged products, performing test and check procedures, and coordinating with internal teams and customers. Dress is typically appropriate for a professional technical and lab environment, balancing comfort with safety and professionalism. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
