Computer Technician / Help Desk Support Specialist Entry-Level | In-House IT | Job Description Position Summary The Computer Technician / Help Desk Support Specialist is an entry-level role providing first-line technical support to internal end users, resolving common hardware, software, and account issues through the company's ticketing system. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their IT career to build hands-on troubleshooting experience while working alongside more senior IT staff. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, comfortable with computers, and eager to develop their technical skills in a supportive, mentorship-driven environment. Prior professional IT experience is not required. Key Responsibilities Answer and log incoming help-desk tickets, phone calls, and walk-up requests, prioritizing routine issues and escalating complex ones to senior technicians. Perform basic troubleshooting on desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals under the guidance of senior IT staff. Assist with installing and updating operating systems, standard business applications, and antivirus/security software. Help set up new employee accounts, email, and system access, and assist with equipment for onboarding/offboarding. Set up workstations, monitors, keyboards, docking stations, and basic peripherals for employees. Perform simple password resets and account unlocks in Active Directory / Microsoft 365. Help troubleshoot basic connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, printers, shared drives) and escalate network issues as needed. Accurately document all support work in the ticketing system, including steps taken and resolution. Maintain and update the equipment/asset inventory as directed. Assist senior technicians with imaging computers, hardware refresh projects, and equipment deployments. Follow established IT procedures and company security policies at all times. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Basic familiarity with Windows and/or macOS operating systems and common office software (email, Word, Excel). Strong desire to learn and grow in an IT support career. Good communication skills and a friendly, patient, customer-service mindset. Ability to follow written instructions and troubleshooting checklists. Comfortable working both independently on simple tasks and as part of a team on larger ones. Preferred Qualifications Coursework, certificate, or degree in IT, computer science, or a related field (or currently pursuing one). CompTIA A+ certification or actively working toward it. Any hands-on experience with computer setup, repair, or troubleshooting (personal, volunteer, internship, or coursework). Basic understanding of networking concepts (Wi-Fi, IP addresses, VPN). Work Environment & Physical Requirements Primarily office-based with regular movement between workstations and equipment storage areas. Ability to lift and carry IT equipment up to 30 lbs (monitors, towers, printers). Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and reach to help install or move equipment. Standard business hours, with occasional flexibility needed to support onboarding or scheduled maintenance. Growth Path This role is designed as a launching point into an IT career, with a clear path toward a mid-level Computer Technician / Help Desk Support role as skills and experience develop. Reporting Structure This position reports to the IT Manager / IT Director.
