Automation Test Engineer / Lab Support Engineer - Automotive#26-31260 Up to $34.29 per hour Dearborn, MI Onsite Job Description Our Client, an IT Services and Consultant company, is looking for an Automation Test Engineer / Lab Support Engineer - Automotive for their Dearborn¸ MI location.
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and root-cause system anomalies, determining if issues are mechanical, electrical, PC environmental, or scripting/software related. Provide timely solutions and fixes to minimize downtime. Document resolution steps and create preventative action plans to mitigate future occurrences. Participate in scheduled team scrums and stand-ups to align on technologies, operational cadences, and shifting priorities. entative Maintenance & Compliance Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance (PM), and necessary repairs on automated PC systems environments Manage and maintain high volume test data Identify and proactively remedy potential setup related failures Maintain a clean, clutter-free workspace in strict adherence to Ford's Safety and 5S Standards. C. Fabrication & Hardware Design Collaborate with components teams to document and understand test rig optimization/ and new requirements Maintain, update, and draft specification diagrams applicable across cross functional teams. Review fabrication request and submit or final fabrication Sanitize all new hardware and harnesses Design, verify, and maintain electrical schematics for in-house technologies. D. Programming & Scripting Utilize scripting languages (Python, Batch, and PowerShell) to automate tasks and maintain system stability. Analyze code, logs, and tracebacks to identify exact points of failure. Log, track, and follow up on software/hardware bugs using established ticketing systems with respective component owners. Validate and deploy software and scripting hotfixes on demand. E. Reporting & Operational Cadence Create and maintain reports tracking asset utilization; proactively follow up with teams regarding underutilized assets. Strictly adhere to established project delivery cadences. Compile and distribute daily status reports highlighting active issues, resolution progress, and their individual/collective impact on deliverables.
Daily Status & Impact Reports:
Summarizing daily operational issues, downtime, and deliverable impacts.
Asset Utilization Reports:
Weekly/monthly tracking of asset usage with action items for low utilization.
Compliance Logs:
Monthly confirmation of PC maintenance and adherence to security/compliance standards.
Technical Documentation:
Updated electrical schematics, wiring harness spec diagrams, and troubleshooting/preventative maintenance guides.
Inventory Log:
Up-to-date tracking of test peripherals and lease renewal timelines.
Requirements:
Education:
4-year College Degree (Preferred not required)
Communication:
Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
Software Proficiency:
Proficient with Microsoft Office, with advanced/expert level Excel skills.
Scripting:
Ability to write Batch or PowerShell scripts on demand.
Debugging:
Ability to debug Python code and analyze system logs to isolate root causes.
OS Knowledge:
Familiarity with various mobile (cell phone) and navigation operating systems.
Technical Drawing:
Ability to read, interpret, and draft schematics specific to in-house technologies.
Adaptability:
Comfortable adapting to rapid changes in direction and priority.
Process Adherence:
Proven ability to strictly follow documented procedures and safety guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles (voltage, current, resistance, and electrical circuits). Hands-on experience with electrical equipment, diagnostic tools, and data acquisition systems. Experience with Python data parsing and web scraping techniques. Self-motivated, proactive, and energetic problem-solver with strong attention to detail. Excellent organizational and housekeeping (5S) skills.
