Job Description

•Open to SEIU Salaried Members and the Public• SEIU Salaried Members must apply within the first 14 days of this posting to be considered as an in-house candidate. Those qualified will be invited to participate in performance testing and an oral interview. Applicants must successfully pass each of the selection processes by a score of 70% or better to proceed in the process. This posting is subject to close after 14 days •Performs technical work supporting the City's information technology infrastructure, including computer hardware, software application, and network systems. Provides help desk support and troubleshooting assistance to City departments and assists with installation and maintenance of technology systems. Work is performed under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor. Installs, configures, and maintains desktop computer, printers, peripheral equipment, and related technology equipment. Provides help desk and level one technical support to City staff by diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Assists with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure including servers, switches, wireless access points, and related equipment. Assists with the network and system security functions including user account set-up, access permissions, and security configurations. Installs and updates software applications and operating systems used by City departments. Assists with the installation and implementation of hardware, software, and technology systems. Maintains technology inventory records, vendor agreements, system changes, and device lifecycle tracking. Maintains records of site licenses and assists with ensuring compliance with licensing requirements. Supports organizational software applications, by assisting with updates, configuration, and performance monitoring. Documents network and system issues, maintenance activities, configurations, and resolutions. Develops basic reports and system-generated reports to support departmental operations. Develops user guides and assists with training City staff on software applications, hardware applications and technology tools. Serves as a technical liaison between City departments, vendors, external organizations, and government agencies for routine support matters. Provides technical support and system administration assistance to support the operational needs of the Police Department. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by formal or vocational education or training in information technology, or a closely related field. Licenses and Certifications Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver's license. Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products Network operating systems and computer hardware Basic network troubleshooting techniques Information Technology security practices. Ability to Read, understand, and apply information from technical documents, manuals, and specifications. Interpret and work from network diagrams, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings. Work with multiple priorities, deadlines, and time constraints; as well as changes in work priorities. Work independently and as part of a team to effectively meet day-to-day operational deadlines. Skill in Installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of network components, PC workstations, and peripheral equipment. Communicating technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing, to users with varying levels of technical knowledge. PC operations including hardware configuration, software installation, and troubleshooting. Work Environment While performing the duties of this position, the employee works in a typical office setting and may travel to various departments within the City. Occasional exposure to the risk of electrical shock Physical Demands Requires physical exertion up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing and walking while performing assigned duties. Occasionally requires climbing stairs, kneeling, stooping, crawling, pushing, pulling, reaching with hands and arms, and operating a motor vehicle. Continuously requires gross and fine motor skills, including frequent hand and finger movements associated with computer operation and keyboarding. Standard vision, including color perception to view computer screens, documents, and system indicators. Standard hearing ability to understand conversations, equipment alerts, and other auditory signals. Ability to communicate effectively and convey detailed or important information clearly and accurately.
