Job Description

This is responsible technical work in the Information Technology Department serving as a resource person for all County departments in the areas of telecommunications, computer systems, networking and information services. Work is performed independently according to standard procedures under the general supervision of the Information Technology Director.

Responsible for installation and maintenance of PC's, monitors, printers and network switches. Upgrades existing personal computers to effectively use new software or hardware. Directly supports County staff by answering technology questions. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, and instructs and assists users in the maintenance of software and hardware. Assists in maintenance of the County's telecommunications system and operations. Assists with website administration and modifications. Maintains records of all inspections, licenses and other applicable data as required. Maintains inventory of software, hardware and replacement parts. Records fixed assets on all computer equipment. Performs other work as required. Responsible to observe all Watonwan County safety and health rules and to apply the principles of accident prevention in day-to-day duties. Training and Experience Two-year Degree in MIS or closely related field, or at least two years of computer support and maintenance experience. Requires valid MN Driver's License. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques commonly used in preventive and general maintenance and repair related to personal computers. General knowledge of network security measures. Physical ability to perform manual tasks requiring coordination, finger dexterity, and strength adequate to lift and move objects of up to 50 pounds. Working ability to perform equipment repairs, installations and tasks involving stooping, crouching, kneeling and crawling. Proficient verbal, graphic and written communication skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all County department heads and employees, the County Board and the general public. Ability to provide on-call assistance during weekends/evenings as required, primarily for emergency needs at the Law Enforcement Center.
