Job Description

We are looking for a Desktop Support Technician to provide dependable onsite technical support for a nonprofit organization in Asheville, North Carolina. This role is ideal for someone who is confident working independently, values a mission-driven environment, and can deliver responsive service to a small user community. The position offers a hands-on opportunity to support both Mac and Windows environments while partnering closely with internal IT leadership to keep daily operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities:
Deliver onsite desktop and help desk support for staff, resolving hardware, software, and access issues in a timely manner. Maintain and troubleshoot devices and user environments across both macOS and Windows platforms. Manage account setup, permissions, and directory-related tasks within Active Directory and Microsoft-based systems. Track, update, and resolve support requests through Jira, ensuring clear communication and accurate documentation. Provide day-to-day assistance with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, to support employee productivity. Share coverage responsibilities with the broader IT team and participate in an on-call rotation outside standard business hours as needed. Work closely with internal technology leadership to escalate issues appropriately and maintain continuity of support. Contribute to a reliable end-user computing environment for a small office by identifying recurring issues and recommending practical fixes. Prior experience in a desktop support, help desk, or similar end-user support position. Working knowledge of both macOS and Windows operating systems in a business setting. Hands-on experience with Active Directory administration and common Microsoft workplace tools. Ability to diagnose and resolve routine technical issues involving desktops, user accounts, and software applications. Experience using a ticketing platform such as Jira to manage and document support activity. Strong communication skills and a service-oriented approach suited to a collaborative, mission-focused organization. Comfortable working fully onsite during regular business hours and participating in a rotating on-call schedule. Familiarity with Linux environments is a plus, but not required.
