Job Description

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Instructional Support Technician . This position interfaces with University faculty, staff, business partners and students. They will respond to work orders for desktop support of MacOS and MS-Windows systems. In this role, you will: Provide analytical thinking skills and ability to use analogies to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Effective time management and ability to prioritize are essential because technical issues arise with little or no warning of the nature or extent of the problem. Support college-wide desktop refreshment and department purchases by imaging, deploying, personalizing, and maintaining MacOS and, secondarily, MS-Windows workstations. Support on-going project work related to Apple and MacOS products. Perform other duties relevant to the area of technical and software support within CASet (e.g., tracking the resolution of technical issues, creating documentation, identifying processes for continued service improvement, etc.). Deploy, configure, and support servers and workstations, both physical and virtual, used by CAS faculty, staff, and students. Deploy, configure, and support macOS and iOS devices used by CAS faculty, staff, and students. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of an Associate's degree with 5 years of experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree on a year for year basis. Experience managing macOS and iOS devices in MDM, preferably Jamf. Experience supporting VDI/VMWare environment. Highly effective writing/verbal communication skills. A valid Class D driver's license to operate a motor vehicle is required or candidate must otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation requirements of the position. Preferred Qualifications Experience in Unix scripting technologies (bash, Python, php, Perl), Experience integrating macOS devices with Active Directory and Intune Preference given to candidates with Jamf 200 certification. Understanding of higher education institutional, academic and business interdependencies. Prodig+ No Executive Position No Physical Demands Frequently moves computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus with the assistance of a dolly or cart.
