Job Description

Position Overview :

Wilberforce University is seeking applications for an IT Support technician to manage desktop support, physical network maintenance, technology for campus events, and inventory control while delivering strong customer service to faculty and staff.

Responsibilities :

In addition to desktop support, physical network maintenance, technology for campus events support, the successful candidate should have the ability and desire to provide comprehensive communications and networking support to ensure seamless connectivity and reliable infrastructure across the entire organization. Provide technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and other end users for computer hardware, software, peripherals, networking, and classroom technology issues. Investigate user-reported technical problems, identify causes, determine appropriate solutions, test resolutions, and implement corrective actions. Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace desktop computers, laptops, monitors, printers, docking stations, peripherals, and other end-user technology. Install and support Windows operating systems, standard productivity applications, and institutionally supported software. Perform basic Microsoft 365 and Active Directory administration, including user, group, and computer object maintenance as authorized. Assist the IT department with infrastructure deployments, equipment installations, technology upgrades, office moves, classroom renovations, and other technical projects. Assist with setup, support, and breakdown of audiovisual and technology equipment for meetings, presentations, special events, and other institutional activities. Install, replace, physically connect, and troubleshoot network switches, wireless access points, and related equipment under the direction of senior IT staff. Install, terminate, test, trace, label, and troubleshoot Ethernet cabling and network connections. Maintain accurate technical documentation, equipment records, network documentation, and technology inventory. Ability to lift, carry, install, and move technology equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related technical field; an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and professional experience may be considered. One to three years of experience in desktop support, help desk, field support, networking, audiovisual support, or a related technical role. Hands-on experience troubleshooting Windows computers, peripherals, software, and basic network connectivity. Experience working with Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft 365 is preferred. Experience supporting classroom, conference room, presentation, or audiovisual technology is preferred. Experience working with managed network switches, wireless access points, structured cabling, or similar networking infrastructure is preferred. Higher education, K-12, or other multi-building IT support experience is a plus.
